West End Gunn and Machine Conway are not to be missed. They know how to take on and crush a song with clever bars and charismatic delivery. Especially when they are paired together. The Griselda stars decided to team up with producer Spectacular Diagnostics to create a few cool-sounding, dangerous-sounding songs. “Tommy Snort” and its B-side “Ray Lewis” saw production from Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine, perfectly complementing their presence.
“Tommy Snort” unfolds over a stuttering instrumental. Westside Gunn kicks things off with another verse that draws the line between humor and pain. He has such gravitas in his voice that you wonder how his Griselda co-star will ever match him. Fortunately, Robot Conway is up to the challenge. Conway is the smoothing yin to the West End’s aggressive yang, and the results are magical. That said, Side B is better. “Ray Lewis” benefits from top-notch instrumentation built around soulful guitar loops. Both rappers do their own thing, but this time Westside stands out. Neither song reinvents the wheel, but who wants a song this good?
