The 2025 XXL freshman course was officially participated. Each rising rap star enters the well-known corridor of hip-hop history in its highest style. Rappers like Loe Shimmy, Lazer Dim 700, and Nino bring new artistic waves to the game, while MCs like Ray Vaughn, Eem Triplin and Samara Cyn showcase the next level of lyricism. Babychiefdoit, Gelo and Ian provide the undeniable sense of Swagger and Ebk Jaaybo, 1900 Rugrat and YTB Fatt anthropomorphize the sound of the streets. All aspects of the game these 12 artists bring to the game are presented through their XXL freshman freestyle showcase.
Over 160 rappers have earned honors as a freshman named XXL for much of the past two decades, playing their skills through individual A Cappella Freestyles. Of course this year is no different. In fact, 2025 is the first time since 2022, and every member of the freshman class has set a freestyle. Even Ebk Jaaybo, the 10th champion of the fan vote, was arrested in Arkansas, despite being arrested on his way to the cover, despite being arrested in Arkansas.
Historically, some outstanding XXL freshman freestyle found hip-hop’s hottest emerging players took a very unique approach when chorusing a cappella. Artists such as Kaycyy and Friday accompanied the choir singers in 2022 and 2023, respectively, while Finesse2tymes famously offers itself a rhythm reminiscent of the lunchroom Cafeteria by smashing her fist against a nearby stool. Just like the freestyles of the past, audiences can expect some of the extraordinary creativity of this year’s class, thanks to Ian and YTB Fatt.
Ray Vaughn was ambitious and put down the Fire Mufasa line. BabyChiefDoit has no regrets and dodges the game. Eem Triplin has come a long way, and his money is different nowadays. With the support of some friends, Ian insisted that he hadn’t changed, but some of his habits had it.
