“I’ll buy 10 of them.”
Is this microwave deal too good to be true? A woman who went to Home Depot was confused when she found a Farberware microwave for only $27. This leaves viewers wondering how much a microwave should actually cost, and why Home Depot is offering it at such a low price.
Summer Nadya (@SummerNadya) shared a less than 10-second video from Home Depot that really seems to grab people’s attention. Despite its short length, the video still has 51,700 views and 77 comments. In the film, Nadya is walking down the aisles of Home Depot when she spots a seemingly crazy sale.
“Can someone tell me if this is normal?” the video overlay says when Nadya discovers a $27 microwave.
Micro-price microwave oven
This bargain treasure happens to be the Farberware Classic 700-Watt Microwave Oven in black. Although Nadya found it for just $27, the box says its original price was $70. In fact, it’s still $89.99 on the Home Depot website. Nadia did find a discount of over 50% off the website price.
The audience expressed mixed opinions and doubts.
“It’s $27, it’s $79. It’s a deal,” one viewer confirmed.
“For $27, I’ll buy one and keep it for when my machine makes noise!” said another.
“They will stop you from buying in advance, no joke, this happened to me at Home Depot,” one person said.
“Yeah, clearance sale. That microwave model isn’t coming back so they’re just throwing it away,” another added.
Is this microwave really stolen?
Again, yes. On average, most microwaves cost well over $27.
Consumer Reports’ Microwave Buying Guide lists some things to consider when buying a microwave.
First, do you want it on the counter or built into the cabinet space? The latter is more expensive.
Second, how powerful do you want your microwave to be? Their power range typically ranges from 700 watts to as high as 1250 watts. Additionally, today’s microwave ovens come with a variety of features, such as convection baking, racks for stacking food, and even air fryers.
Finally, there are aesthetic features such as color and material. All of these different features affect the price of your microwave.
Consumer Reports guides say countertop microwaves, like what Nadya found, typically start at about $60. However, larger models or models with unique features can cost up to $500. With small countertop microwaves starting at $60, according to Consumer Reports guides, Nadya’s find may go down in history as the best microwave deal on the Internet.
