Creator Tyler does focus on making the best music he could possibly do. He is a comprehensive artist regardless of the medium, and undoubtedly proves Chromakopia, just following his latest album, Do not Tak the Glass. But recently, the rapper opened up less mysteriously during a conversation with Zane Lowe in Apple Music 1.
In the interview, Taylor talked about a series of topics that fans were surprised by. From embracing his playful side on his recent albums to working with cliparts (and knowing he will do it one day), and even the idea of his father. Here is an excerpt from the interview, where Taylor talks about his feelings about the kids.
Tyler, creator: This is stupid, and it’s funny again. Because Chromakopia looks a lot like me…I’m not saying it’s the most mature, deepest shit. Everyone has a different life. But for me, whether it’s my relationship with my hair, and my relationship with almost my father last year, or my relationship with my father now, there are a lot of things I decided to dig deeper into. After the weight drops, I just want to be stupid again.
Zane Lowe: I’ve known you for a long time and I hope you accept this question in the spirit of this meaning because I’m one. Just today, you mentioned your father a few times in this conversation. You mentioned it in the record.
Will it scare you? Will it inspire you? As someone who has experienced it, as a kid, you went through that kind of experience and then who are you today, wanting to do something different, being different, what does that mean to you, what does the father’s idea mean?
Creator Taylor: I don’t know. A little sick. Part of me is like: “n *** a, I think I’ll be a rich uncle”, but my other half is like: “Okay, you’re a little sick.
Zane Lowe: There is nothing wrong with that.
Tyler, creator: “I want to go home.”
Zane Lowe: There is nothing wrong with that.
Tyler, creator: “I saw you in two weeks.” Like, I give them cool gifts like boom.
Zane Lowe: Yes, you get all the good stuff, some good stuff.
Creator Tyler: But, another guy of mine is like, “I don’t know. I guess it’s a little sick, just share music with some little assholes and randomly dress up as a firefighter on a random Thursday and go to the amusement park and ride a bike and make clothes for them. It’s cool. And there’s no legacy. I think it’s old-fashioned when n*** is like “Oh, I want to have a child to legacy.”
Zane Lowe: No, no, no, because every parent has experienced self-death…
Tyler, creator: Like old-fashioned. You’re going to die. What are we talking about?
Zane Lowe: Every parent has experienced self-death. Every single parent. They think they don’t, but they’re totally fucking. You’re like, “Ah man, look at you.” It’s like, “I can give all this wisdom.” Nonsense. They will reject you.
Tyler, creator: No, that kid will become unique.
Zane Lowe: They all reject you.
Creator Taylor: OK,
Zane Lowe: Every time, they go –
Creator Tyler: n *** a will turn 14-
Zane Lowe: “Goodbye. Fuck you. I don’t need you.”
Tyler, creator:…get a face tattoo.
Zane Lowe: 100%.
Creator Tyler: Like, “Fuck you.”
Zane Lowe: 100%. 100%.
Tyler, creator: But, yes. One of me was like, “Damn it, that would fly.”
