Tyler, the Creator accepted the Innovator of the Decade award at Variety’s Hitmakers event in Hollywood on Saturday night, a moment that prompted the forward-thinking artist to pause and reflect on 15 years of creative evolution.
The 34-year-old Odd Future co-founder and cross-genre rapper seemed genuinely surprised by the honor, sharing his thoughts in a speech filled with humility and gratitude.

The award was presented by Andre 3000, who praised Taylor’s tireless efforts and ability to inspire creativity in others.
“If you can inspire other people to want to do something purely, then you’ve done a great thing. You can see his excitement, drive and enthusiasm – it’s contagious. He cares about what he’s doing and keeps innovating,” Andre said.
This recognition came at the peak of Taylor’s career. Last year, he released two albums: 2024’s Chromakopia and July 2025’s Don’t Tap the Glass.
Both records were nominated for 2026 Grammy Awards. “Chromakopia” was shortlisted for Album of the Year, while “Don’t Tap the Glass” was shortlisted in the Best Alternative Album category.
Taylor’s creative reach continues to expand beyond music. He will star alongside Timothée Chalamet in the upcoming film Marty Supreme. The film’s director, Josh Safdie, praised Taylor’s all-encompassing artistic approach.
“Tyler is a rare artist and creator in that everything he does is completely vertically integrated: there is almost no distinction between a song and the larger picture, which is an album, a bottle of cologne, a T-shirt, or a music video he’s directing, or in this case, with me, a character he’s developing,” Safdie said.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held in February.
