A hit song by Tupac Shakur serves as the soundtrack to a new dance challenge that is dominating social media, but not everyone is keen on the moment.
Tupac Shakur dance challenge goes viral
Over the past few weeks, Tupac Shakur’s 1996 hit “How Do U Want It,” featuring K-Ci and JoJo, has been heard in a series of videos on TikTok, Instagram and part of the challenge. In the video, a man and a woman are taking two steps on the runway. During the dance performance, they swayed their hips to the beat of “Pac rap,” “loving the way you activate your hips and push your hips out.”
TikTok user @miaanichelle_, who admitted she wasn’t the original choreographer of the dance, shared a step-by-step tutorial for people to learn how to participate in the dance challenge, below. “I didn’t do this dance, but a lot of people asked for a tutorial, so I’ll give you a tutorial,” she said.
“The Tupac dance challenge is my favorite thing on TikTok right now lol,” X user @DoBetterBlues posted. “I’m not lying, I love Tupac Tik Tok dancing,” X user @itshannonnicole added.
While the challenge was fun, it pissed off some people. Children also participated in the dance, but the West Coast MC’s song lyrics were inappropriate for underage listeners.
“Kids shouldn’t be shaking their hips to Tupac and saying ‘I love the way you activate your hips and push your ass out. I want it so bad, I’m so bad, I’m about to pass out doing it.'” No! No! @luckyyyjay tweeted.

Tupac was a dancer at heart. The late rapper, who tragically died after being shot in 1996, had been performing in ballet and theater since he was a child. He was also a background dancer for the Digital Underground in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Chances are, “Pac wouldn’t be too offended by any rap fans showing off their moves in his music.
