On June 25, Trey Songz gave fans a surprise. He also explained why the film never saw the light of day. This isn’t because of any tension with Tyga or complications with the label. In fact, everyone except Trey Songz supported its release. The singer told his fans that the reason he chose to cancel the collaboration was because of the actors in the film. Or more specifically, who isn’t.
Songz was put off by the fact that there wasn’t a lot of black female representation in the music video. “Archives,” he confirmed in the caption. “I gave up on this video because there weren’t enough black women in it. Someone called me a n***er last time in Spain and it didn’t feel right. [shrug shoulders emoticon]” Songz made it clear that there are no hard feelings between him and Tyga. “Song Leng though,” he added. “Traw my dawg @tyga. Most users in Trey Songz’s comments section criticized his reasoning.

“Y’all shun black women in America,” one user wrote. “But to go record a video in a country where there is no video and try to create a spectacle. Let’s stay away from it.” Another user accused Songz of making the decision after filming the video. “He thinks we’re stupid enough to believe this nonsense,” they noted. “Sir, you saw it when you were filming the video. In April, Songz settled a $25 million lawsuit out of court. Jane Doe, the woman who filed the lawsuit, said the singer sexually assaulted her at a party in Los Angeles in 2016. There has been no public response to the allegations. However, he did post a cryptic message on Instagram shortly after filing the $25 million lawsuit. “A lie can never become the truth,” he wrote. “Whoever chooses to believe that. Alhamdulillah.”
