The Fugees are reportedly working on their first album since 1996, following news of a reunion tour.
The trio of Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel and Lauryn Hill are reportedly in the studio working on their first project since the seven-time platinum hit The Score, The New York Post reported on Friday (June 28) .
An anonymous inside source revealed the news to the newspaper.
The Washington Post also mentioned that Wyclef previewed a possible new album in November, noting that, as he said in an old song, “Anything can happen. “
Earlier this week, Lauryn Hill announced that she would be bringing her son YG Marley with her on tour with The Fugees.
The New Jersey legend announced in an Instagram post that “the festivities continue with the tour,” which will continue last year’s 25th anniversary celebration of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”
The 22-day trek is scheduled to start in Tampa, Florida, on August 9, travel through the United States, then head to Europe in October, ending in Amsterdam.
Attendees at this year’s Coachella music festival got a taste of Hill’s upcoming tour, when she surprised the crowd on the first weekend by popping up at YG Marley’s show and bringing along Wyclef Jean.
About 15 minutes into the Marley Heir’s show, his mother joined in and played some of her solo hits, then joined Clef in performing some of the Fugees hits.
“Ex-Factor,” “Lost Ones,” “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not” and “Fu-Gee-La” are all on the playlist, with YG filling in for Pras on “Ready or Not.” .Later, they also launched Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star.
Last month, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” was inducted into the 2024 Grammy Hall of Fame, along with songs such as De La Soul’s “3 Feet High and Rising.”
“We are proud to unveil a diverse portfolio of recordings on the occasion of the Grammy Hall of Fame’s 50th anniversary,” shared Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. “The music presented here has played a key role in shaping our cultural landscape, and we are honored to recognize these albums and recordings and the profound impact each has had on music and beyond.”
“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned its creator five Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Album.
