As you know, Target has been subject to constant resistance. It has been bubbled up for some time since the company decided to quietly remove diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) from its company’s priorities. Dee has been a political lightning rod lately. But, let’s keep it real. Donald Trump basically gave the company a green light to stop doing anything like support from marginalized communities.
Now, Dei somehow becomes a dirty word, although the focus is on addressing systemic inequality in American society. And, if we are honest, white women have always been the biggest beneficiaries of the DEI program, not blacks. In this regard, black people are still at the bottom of the ladder. We won’t get much from it, so the rebound is ironic at best. But, despite this, boycotts are still active.
Last weekend, the Essence Festival made its goal as a sponsor, which was not going well. People see it as a move of knot. Essence looks crazy here now to cross that “picket” and their brand is taking a hit. I’m not angry with them because they allegedly lost a lot of sponsors this year.
However, the target feels different types of calories. From what I gathered, no one forced them when they deprived them of their promises. This move appears directly from the top. Trump didn’t tell them to do it. They do it themselves. deliberately. Strategically, now rumors are breaking out.
Now, I hear whispers that shareholders are considering legal action because it is surprising and it hurts the bottom line. They don’t care about it is a principle, but they do care about profits. Profits are bleeding. When money starts to dry up, even the coldest capitalists start to pay attention. What should I do? Target is reportedly considering bringing Dei back. Yes, they allegedly wanted that “good thing”.
First, it’s a rumor, and secondly, there is no online information to support this. However, sources are talking about it. But this is a bigger problem. I don’t think people will buy either way. They pulled Kai Cenat into the mixture because a PR chess would lure people back to the store, but go up. This won’t make high-income earners or those who feel burned.
If they are serious, they need to do more than just hire influencers. Maybe they should advertise on Allhiphop because we are the people. Better yet, invest in the community. Build the program. The job is not just about selling our socks and homecoming notebooks. Make it sustainable. sincere. Hire me! It may not solve everything overnight, but I promise the real change starts from the inside.
Even then…this may not be enough. We are very tired.
