sexyy red just opened up to her fans about the vulnerable state she was in while writing her summer song “get it sexy.”

Sexyy’s #### song was certified gold by the RIAA on Tuesday (August 13), in addition to her breakout single “Pound Town” being certified platinum. In a candid moment on Twitter, the St. Louis rapper chose to talk about the night her hit “Get It Sexy” was born. She shared that it was a difficult time in her life – having just given birth and battling postpartum depression. As she recalls, she was in Miami, away from her support system, alone in the studio working on new music. Instead of finding solace in songwriting, Sexy Red found herself overwhelmed by emotion.

“I’ll be there crying and thinking about life,” Sexy Red wrote.

The gravity of her situation prompted her to decide that she needed to go home.

“I ended up saying send me back to St. Louis so I could be with the people I love and come back to me!” she said.

When she returned home and was surrounded by friends and family, her mood changed. She then gathered her sisters and friends for a studio session in St. Louis. With the energy of blunts, bottles and food, Sexyy Red infuses her newfound spirit into the song “Get It Sexy.” The energy in the room helped her move past her sadness, and the result was a confidence-boosting anthem.

“We were so transformed that all my sadness disappeared,” she wrote.

Story Time: I was going through a lot that sexy night, just being depressed with my baby and going through postpartum… My team in Miami would have me in the studio writing songs where I would cry and think about Life…I finally said send me back to Saint…

Commercially, “Get It Sexy” proved to be more than just a personal triumph. The song became a hit on streaming platforms, racking up millions of plays on Spotify and Apple Music. It also cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 64, and cemented “Sexyy Red” as a force to be reckoned with in the rap world. The song’s success highlights her ability to turn pain into strength and create a vibe that resonates with fans around the world.

Given the amount of criticism Sexyy has been receiving lately, the song’s success seems even more admirable considering the additional context she provides. In addition to claims that she’s being targeted by major companies trying to undermine her touring success, Sexyy has also had to deal with scrutiny from major music industry moguls like Jermaine Dupri, who criticized her sales figures and Early Career Development.

Still, it’s nice to see that music can still give sexyy a spark of confidence. Check out her full tweet above.
