J. Cole’s latest project, “Delete Later,” has been the subject of much debate and discussion. From Cole’s mixed feelings about Kendrick’s snub to the eventual removal of “7 Minute Drill” from streaming services — the project continues to spark interesting conversations in the community.
Lately, however, it’s The Alchemist’s contributions that have hip-hop insiders talking about the project beyond the obvious hype.
The esteemed producer took to social media to reveal the original beat for the song “Stickz N Stones,” the official version of which he co-produced with producer Steve Bilodeau. He also revealed the possibility of sending the original Alchemist version to DJs to provide live audiences with alternative playing options.
While the released version boasts Brave strum-based samples during boom bap breaks, the original beat seems to completely stray from the sound, with extensive use of a repeating key-based theme on similarly patterned drums for the final cut.
The newly released original beat also seems to take a more minimalist, simple approach, with almost no wind instrument parts unlike the final version. Of course, both instruments are perfectly crafted in the standard Alchemist style, which understandably leaves fans divided between which is the better choice. The final cut can be streamed below!
