Baltimore rapper Baby K has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder for his role in a 2023 attempted murder on a Prince George’s County school bus.
Such a harsh sentence caused controversy as Baby K was only 16 years old.
Told in brutal detail. Baby K, who was 14 at the time, and two accomplices confronted another 14-year-old on a bus with the intention of carrying out a deadly plan.
The two teenagers subdued the victim while Baby K attempted to fire three shots, but a technical glitch saved the target’s life.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, and faces the court’s most severe penalty.
“Anyone who sees this video and sees us nearly losing our lives on a public school bus, I’m sure they’re shocked, I’m sure they’re scared when they see this… I hope this sentence brings Deputy Commissioner James McCreery told a news conference: “We have taken a peaceful approach and introduced a degree of closure to the victims and the community. “
Judge Michael Whelan stressed that Baby K’s past offenses and the premeditated nature of the crime were key factors in sentencing.
Despite previous contact with the juvenile justice system and mental health and substance counseling orders, the teenager’s repeated non-compliance further justified the judge’s decision to try him as an adult.
The decision to sentence him as an adult also stemmed from a belief that the juvenile system was ineffective in rehabilitating him.
“Twenty-five years — that’s an important sentence; that’s the most important guideline, and it was appropriate in this case because he planned, thought through, and executed what he wanted, which was to murder a child,” the state Prosecutor Aisha Braveboy added.
