Rapper Tay-K faces a capital murder trial in February 2025 for his role in the 2017 murder of a man.
Tay-K is serving a 55-year sentence for a separate murder in a 2016 home invasion.
Prosecutors said Tay-K, who was out on bail and under house arrest, cut off the GPS monitor and ran away.
While on the run, he released a music video for the song “The Race,” which gained viral attention, racking up over 360 million views on YouTube and entering the Billboard Hot 100.
The 24-year-old allegedly robbed and shot Saldivar at a Chick-fil-A while on the run.
Tay-K was eventually arrested in New Jersey after evading law enforcement.
Jury selection in the case will begin on February 7, with testimony in court on February 10.
Defense attorneys have expressed concerns about the film’s influence on potential jurors, arguing it could bias the jury.
As a result, the court will convene an above-average 200 jurors to address potential pretrial publicity issues.
If convicted at his upcoming trial, he faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Earlier this week, a photo of Tay-K with a giant scar on the back of his neck went viral again, sparking conspiracy theories on social media.

About two years ago, Tay-K posted a series of tweets on his @tayk account on X.com.
The rapper says he was abused at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center, where he claims he was treated like a domestic animal.
“I am [at] Internal war…I feel like a hamster here…They literally treat me like a ferret here [right now],” he tweeted.
