Sza admits she felt “reassuring” when her stage time was trimmed during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans.
The singer said there were fewer chances of screwing up in front of millions of people.
The Grammy-winning singer joined Lamar at the Caesar Super Ball in February, performing “Luther” and “All Stars” in the final of the high-profile competition.
However, according to Sza, the original plan required a longer look and different songs.
“Initially, I had a longer performance, and I had a longer performance, and I felt relieved (when it all changed) because I had less chances of hurting myself on camera or in public,” she said on a Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott. “I couldn’t believe I was part of it.”
While she didn’t name the scrapped track, the two’s catalog includes “Gloria”, “Babylon”, “Dove in the Wind” and “30 for 30”.
Sza also revealed her anxiety, leading to a performance, saying the Super Bowl stage was the biggest of her life.
“I was really shocked just because it was the biggest stage of my career. I really didn’t know where I could go from there. I was like, I didn’t know if I would survive,” she said. “I did a lot of meditation and a lot of breathing that I usually don’t do, but I’ve learned recently that it’s a way to save my life. It’s the only thing that calms me down.”
The next one for the duo is the Big Country Tour, which will begin April 19 in Minneapolis.
