SZA has announced as the first artistic director of iconic footwear and fashion brand Vans.
As part of a multi-year partnership, SZA will conduct activities with the brand and jointly create its own project series.
“Kill Bill” said in a statement: “In the van, I’m free! I’ve been wearing knu skools and other styles for years and they’ve always had the spirit of connecting with me. As an art director, my mission is to show that joy, community, creativity and fashion are still intersecting. Humanity, culture and connection are still the points of access.”
“I learned that heroism and curiosity are the cures for uncertainty, it’s a lifestyle and van champion. They stand where I stand and I’m honored to invite a group of people to stand on the wall with us.”
Vans added: “SZA is a revolutionary artist who shapes the emotional tone of a generation. Through her genre defense voice, she brings authenticity to the forefront, creating space for soft and powerful expressions. She challenges fashion norms and cultural expectations that enable them to allow young people to have their own stories. In her stories, we see people who are unique, whose intentions are creative and able to blend in and be self-righteous.”
The singer’s first campaign was to help Vans’ famous KNU Skool skateboard shoes.
SZA recently thanked Kendrick Lamar for bringing her to the shared record of the national tour.
In the Instagram story, she wrote: “This trip was the craziest experience of my life. Like all the thoughts of my childhood…what was that? Lmao didn’t have a lot of words. Thank you for happening to everyone involved. Especially Kendrick Lamar.”
Sza also paid tribute to Kendrick when she came on stage together on June tour.
Sza became emotional, “He brought me into the biggest moment of my life. It was also the biggest moment of my life… I’m very grateful, I’m very grateful to you guys.”
Then, two “Luther” collaborators shared an intimate hug before continuing the show.
