Swedish rapper Hamko was shot dead outside a restaurant in Puerto Banus, Spain on Friday afternoon, a targeted sunlight attack that caused tourists to scramble for safety, and police quickly arrested a suspect.
The 25-year-old Swedish rapper smoked on his cell phone around 2:30 p.m. when a gunman came out from behind a black van and fired at close range.
The surveillance camera captured the shooter throwing his own cigarette, then pulled a gun from behind and released several rounds as Hamko tried to hide between the tables on the terrace.
One witness added that they heard “six to seven guns” from what sounded like “very powerful weapons.” Nearby diners and pedestrians fell to the ground or panic, flying with the bullets.
Emergency responders transported Hamko to the Costa del Sol hospital in Marbella, but he died shortly after he arrived.
Later, authorities arrested a 38-year-old man, who was also described by local media as an Afghan descendant near the scene. Police have not released any further details about the suspect or motive.
The killing re-examines Sweden’s ongoing battle with organized crime, especially given Karimi’s past connection with Sweden’s most prominent rapper, Enal, who was murdered in Stockholm in October 2021.
Hamko and Einar were reportedly childhood friends who grew up in the same Stockholm community, although they were no longer closed when Einar died.
Einar’s real name is Nils Grönberg, who was also 19 years old when he was shot while police were still shot. He is expected to testify in a criminal case involving the 2020 kidnapping, involving rival rapper Yasin Mahamoud.
Yasin was later convicted for helping to lure Einar to attack the studio where he was attacked.
Spanish authorities have not confirmed whether Hamko’s murder is related to any gang activity, but Costa del Sol is increasingly becoming a hot spot for international crime networks, including those linked to Sweden.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
