Stormzy was banned from driving for nine months after he was caught using his mobile phone while driving a limousine in London.
The grime star admitted the offence, which resulted in him being fined and having points added to his driving record. Stormzy faced sentencing at Wimbledon Magistrates Court earlier this week.
On March 7, 2024, an off-duty police officer spotted Stormzy using his mobile phone while driving a Rolls-Royce Phantom in West Kensington.
The officer reportedly approached the vehicle, knocked on the tinted window, and told the rapper: “Get rid of your tint and turn off your phone.”
The 31-year-old artist did not appear in court but admitted the offense in a written plea.
As well as the driving ban, Stormzy received a $2,490 fine, six points on his license and was criticized by District Judge Andrew Sweet, who described him as “dangerous and irresponsible” Behavior.
The court detailed that the chart-topping rapper already had six penalty points on his license due to previous speeding offences.
It was also mentioned at the hearing that Stormzy was earlier caught driving a Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted windows that only blocked 4% of light, violating the legal requirement to allow 70% of light to pass through.
After being warned, the rapper eventually removed the tinted windows.
Stormzy’s legal representative, Peter Csemiczky, spoke in court on his client’s behalf, acknowledging the actions and apologizing. “He takes full responsibility for what happened,” Chemitsky said.
Known for hits such as “Vossi Bop” and “Shut Up,” the rapper has become one of the most prominent figures in British hip-hop.
