Slick Rick won with actor Idris Elba, a groundbreaking visual album that was collaborating with Mass Applans on June 13 via Elba’s 7Wallace Label.
Victory is a sound and film experience since the last full-length release of the Ruler, 26 years since the Ruler’s last full release, reimagining the art of storytelling, legacy and creative vision. The project was produced by the poet (Slick Rick) and the visionary (Idris Elba), which has a dynamic collaboration with Nas and Giggs, as well as the special look of Estelle.
“Victory is about perseverance, storytelling, imagination and growth,” Slick Rick said. “This is a visual tapestry of art and emotion – a musical journey that reflects my past and future. Victory is more than just music; it is a powerful statement that emphasizes the best art of British art!”
Nas added: “I’m back with Slick Rick, so it’s an honor to work together again. He’s the foundation of hip-hop and I’m glad that the new generation will experience his artistic nature.”
At the heart of the project is a 30-minute immersive film directed by Meji Alabi, known for his work on Beyoncé’s King. The film brings victory with amazing visual effects and narrative depth.
For the aesthetics of the project, Slick Rick worked with photographers Jonathan Mannion and Creative Storytellers Equator Studios. Jay-Z’s long-time engineer Young Guru handled the mix, while the album’s artwork and launch was developed by British agents PAQ and Rick’s Team Eye Patch.
The victory will premiere in the first SXSW London at Shoreditch Town Hall on June 7, followed by live conversations with Slick Rick, Elba and Alabi. Tickets are now available. The New York premiere was held on June 13 at the SVA 1 Theater at Tribeca Festival, with a Q&A of Slick Rick.
Written four years of victory between London and France and captured visual effects in the United States, Britain and Africa. The result is a transcontinental tribute to Rick’s legacy, blending profound lyrics, cinematic talent and boundary-savvy artistry. Victory is not only an album, it celebrates resilience, creativity and unlimited imagination.
The victory movie will be broadcast worldwide on June 13 (platform details are coming soon). The album will also be streamed and purchased on all major platforms on the same day.
Slick Rick’s album is part of Legend, one of seven large-scale appeal plans released in the coming months. Other projects include NAS and DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu-Tang clan, Mobb Deep, Big L and De La Soul.
