Skilla Baby recently debunked claims that Eminem is the best rapper in Detroit.
Skilla Baby denies Eminem is Detroit’s best rapper
On a recent episode of Keke Palmer’s podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday (July 2), guest Skilla Baby dismissed claims that Eminem is the best rapper in Detroit. At the 45-minute mark in the video below, the 2024 XXL freshman answers questions during Keke’s “But the Gag Is” segment.
When Cocker asked Skira the question: “The best rapper in Detroit is Eminem, but the joke is…,” the Motor City rhymer had a straightforward answer.
“I don’t know, because if you think in terms of numbers, Eminem is the best rapper in Detroit,” Skira said. “But the funny thing is, no one in Detroit would say that.”
Koko was shocked by his comment and yelled: “It’s tea now, shush!”
The actress and singer then asked Skira who he thought were the top rappers in Detroit.
“I don’t know, because everyone has their turn as Detroit’s favorite rapper,” Schilla responded. “It’s Sada Baby’s turn, it’s Tee Grizzley’s turn, [42] Dugg’s turn, Babyface Ray’s turn. Veeze is one of the best rappers in Detroit right now. Baby Smoove, Big Kizz—a lot of artists have changed. Rocaine…everyone became the best player in the city, but what we lacked was consistency. No one has always been the best rapper in Detroit.
“In terms of numbers, Eminem. But no one in Detroit plays Eminem,” he added. “I’m a fan of Eminem. But do we think he’s our best rapper? I don’t think Detroit does.”

Sada Baby: Eminem not on my top five list of Detroit rappers
Skilla Baby isn’t the only Detroit rapper to feel this way about Eminem.
Back in April 2019, D-Town rhymer Sada Baby stated that Eminem was not on his list of the best rappers in Detroit.
In an interview with Say Cheese Media (see below), Sada stated that Slim Sheedy was not a major influence on him, and therefore, he was not included in his Mount Rushmore list of Detroit’s best. If anything, Sada thinks Em is more respectable.
“I didn’t know we had trailer parks until I saw 8 Mile,” Sada Baby told Say Cheese Media. “And I still don’t know that no one knows this. So it’s not about being in the trenches, I’m just talking about music and rappers and my top five and my Detroit Mount Rushmore for rappers, Em is literally Honorable Mention for 8 Mile.
