2024 is already shaping up to be a memorable year in hip-hop, with six months of releases to look forward to. This week we get an EP from one of the hottest female rappers in the game, a budding Cali rapper releases his final release on Def Jam, and a former XXL freshman releases new expansion Games and more.
Sexy Red Drops in “Sexy We Trust” EP
Sexy Red is still on the “Make America Sexy Again” campaign. The St. Louis rapper has dropped her first project of 2024 with a new EP, In sexyy We Trust.
The EP features guest appearances from Lil Baby and Drake on “U My Everthing.” The latter song marks Sexy and Drizzy’s second collaboration. The two collaborated last year on the Jersey club-influenced song “Rich Baby Daddy.”
The record’s first single was “Get It Sexy,” and its music video paid homage to the Southern rap scene of the early 2000s. In the visual below, Sexyy is having a blast twerking on the rink. The clip also features guest appearances from Drizzy, Soulja Boy, D4l’s Fabo, Trippie Redd, Sexyy’s longtime producer Tay Keith, and more.

Vince Staples releases Dark Ages record
Vince Staples returns with new album Dark Times, his seventh and final project on Def Jam Recordings. The series comes out in 2022, two years after “Ramona Park Broke My Heart.”
The album’s dark cover art contains a faint image of a noose. According to the Los Angeles Rhythm, it represents the potentially life-threatening challenges Black people face every day. “I’m black and that’s what we run from,” Vince explained in a press release. “We all have things that could kill us. We all have imminent threats.”
As for the music, Vince Staples shared his ultimate goals for his new album in a message posted on his Instagram page, which can be seen below.
“Eleven years ago, a young, uncertain me got a chance at Def Jam Recordings. A year later, I released my first project under their banner, Shyne Coldchain Vol 2,” he wrote. “I wasn’t sure what to expect from the world of music, but was deeply aware of what I needed: a change in my surroundings and a clear understanding of myself. Ten years and seven projects later, I found this clarity. Now, I Sharing with you my final version of Def Jam, Dark Times.

Coi Leray Releases Lemon Cars EP
After dropping her Mike Will Made-It collaboration Wanna Come Thru in January, Coi Leray is now teaming up with the super-producer again for her Lemon Cars EP. The 6-track EP features Skilla Baby’s only feature and includes the first single and video “Lemon Cars.”
The album will be Coi’s first since signing with Island Records, having previously released a Coi album with Republic in June 2023. .
