After the unexpected international success of her last collaboration with Indian pop singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, “Khutti,” Saweetie is back to brighten your summer with her brand new single, “NANi.” The multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated hip-hop heartthrob’s bars are centered around bar hopping. Indeed, and quite tastefully!
The rapper feels like she’s on the record and is more confident than ever, rapping directly to all the partygoers; but even more specifically to the girl boss baddies among her fan base. In Saweetie’s own words, “NANi is a record about feeling beautiful, confident, and unstoppable when you walk into any room. Put your heart into work, grab your bag, and have fun working!”
There were bars like, “Oh, got it, nani, nani nani/How she rocked that body/Yelling, who’s gonna stop me/You don’t have time to clock me in” and “The whole room was It’s a bad bitch, there’s a lot of us,” and the rapper clearly intends to write a summer anthem specifically for this talented and ambitious woman.
In fact, one of Saweetie’s lyrics is an interpolated, almost sample-like ode to a Lady Gaga interview, in which Gaga talks about the hectic parts of her life as a musician. Saweetie echoed Gaga’s sentiment of “not sleeping” and getting on a plane to “another club,” well, “another club.” The catchiest part of the song expresses the inspiration, “Planes, sprinters, glamor, going to the club, back door part, shots, another club/two shows in one night, what’s that? A hunter plus…”
Featuring a minimalist, synth-heavy, pop-rich production aesthetic, the song was produced by Jean-Baptiste, Karl Rubin, Shawn Wasabi, Ryland Blackington, and Ryan Buendia, who successfully realized their vision of a dance floor crusher. The song, released by ICY/Warner Records, also comes with a fresh music video directed by Chandler Lass, in which Saweetie and her daughters can be seen causing excitement at a pool party caused a sensation.
