Rod Wave was booked into a Florida prison on Wednesday (April 3). The rapper was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation by St. Petersburg police, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He was booked into the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The Alamo Records artist was charged with two felony counts of unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition. He remains jailed in Manatee County.
Rod Weaver’s attorneys, Bradford Cohen and Mark Rankin, claim the rapper is not a convicted felon.
“The officer who made the arrest was in error,” they told TMZ. “He is not a convicted felon and has never been a convicted felon. We hope more research can be done before they file these charges.”
His lawyers plan to take legal action over what they believe is a wrongful arrest.
“As in any situation, we will hold those parties who made mistakes accountable for their actions,” they declared.
St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway plans to announce “several significant arrests in the ongoing investigation” at a press conference at 4 p.m. ET. Police declined to release further details ahead of the meeting.
Rod Wave, whose real name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was charged with felony assault in 2022. He was accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend to death. Weeks after his arrest, prosecutors dismissed the case.
“We are glad he has moved on from this misunderstanding and that he can move on to a successful career,” Cohen wrote on Instagram in 2022. “Sometimes misunderstandings can be misconstrued until after all the evidence and witnesses have been reviewed, the correct The argument will be established.” The decision is made by the state attorney. We appreciate the professionalism of our Osceola attorneys. “
The domestic violence case was Rodwell’s only known brush with the law before his arrest Wednesday.
