ASAP Rocky fans are eagerly awaiting the release of his new album Don’t Be Dumb on August 30, and the hit music producer has a lot on his plate. Apart from prepping for this long-awaited project, he is currently busy juggling some legal dramas. Rocky is accused of shooting in the direction of his childhood friend and collaborator ASAP Relli in 2021, grazing his hand. In January, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree assault involving a semiautomatic firearm.
Legal reporter Meghann Cuniff spoke with ASAP Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, outside the courtroom yesterday after the judge denied the defense’s motion to dismiss the case. According to Tacopina, they are ready for trial and Rocky is looking forward to finally getting back to the things that matter most to him. His trial is scheduled to begin later this year.
ASAP Rocky’s trial will begin on November 12, 2024
“We know that the chances of success of this initiative at this stage are slim,” Tacopina explained. “We’ve been preparing for the trial… so we’ll be ready for that moment.” Rocky’s lawyer also confirmed that his trial is now scheduled to begin on November 12, just weeks before it was originally scheduled. “Loki and his family are very anxious to see this matter brought to justice,” he added. “He’s doing a great job.”
Tacopina also said Rocky is currently focused on his kids and career, which makes sense given his upcoming release date. Earlier this week, he discussed the album with Zane Lowe on New Music Daily. He confirmed that the leaked tracks would not appear on the LP. “I might perform [them] “It’s everywhere,” he said, “but if it leaks, that’s what it is.” What do you think about ASAP Rocky’s motion to dismiss being denied by the judge?
