Rick Ross will return to Mississippi roots on Thursday (June 19), with Clarksdale officials renamed a section of Issaquena Avenue during his public ceremony outside Wingstop at 300 Issaquena Avenue.
The event will recognize the Grammy-nominated rapper’s connection to the community and his influence in music and business.
“The City of Clarksdale is proud to announce the official naming of philanthropist, entrepreneur and cultural icon Rick Ross in honor of the Grammy Award nomination.”
Rick Ross has long been in touch with Clarksdale through family relationships and frequent visits. His influence surpassed hip-hop and took risks in food franchise and real estate.
“Rick Ross has taken root in Clarksdale through his family legacy and has visited the city frequently. Ross is known for his conducting voice and lyrical talent and has had a strong impact on both the music and the business world,” the city said.
Street naming is part of a broad effort to celebrate Clarksdale natives’ significant contributions to art, culture and commerce.
“Clarksdale leaders and community members will come together to celebrate Ross’ contributions and recognize the positive light he brings to his ancestors’ hometown,” the city added. “The street naming marks a historic moment in Clarksdale, respecting an Indigenous son who continues to be inspired by art, culture and business.”
