There have been signs that things are not going well for TDE for nearly a year, with rapper Reason announcing today that he is leaving the label.
Reason said in a formal statement released today (June 18) that he has parted ways with TDE but has the highest admiration and respect for the brand and its executives. Please read the full statement below.
Back in August, Reason appeared on an episode of BACKONFIGG to express his dissatisfaction with his upcoming album Porches. “We’ve got certain features in place that are passable,” he said. “We have a budget, we have features lined up, but it takes a long time to complete, feature prices end up going up or something disappears. Content ideas are lined up, but not executed. Launch ideas are queued up, but not executed yet.
TDE co-president Anthony “Moosa” Tiffith Jr. (son of brand founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith Sr.) responded to Reason’s complaint on live broadcast, and the two ended up having a heated discussion.
Statement of reason:
The past seven years have been incredible and I am grateful for all the time and experiences I have had during this time. I can’t even put into words the surreal feeling of being able to share my thoughts, expressions, emotions, stories and experiences with everyone through the platform that TOP DAWG ENTERTAINMENT has provided me.
Having said that, it is with great gratitude and excitement that I announce my separation from TDE. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to myself for not only giving me the opportunity to achieve my dreams, but for listening to my heart and understanding my decision to pursue a different path years later. The respect I have for you truly cannot be described in words, and no matter what happens, that respect will never change.
I also want to thank every TDE fan who has embraced me and allowed me to share my music with them. There is no world that is not the most absolute for me. Last but not least, thank you to all the artists who embraced me.
Thank you for your continued inspiration and ear as I try to navigate this industry and music. Thank you all for taking the time and thank you all so much for this experience.
Excited for what comes next!
