A Russian woman has been sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison by a Russian court for murdering and dismembering her rapper husband, a case that has attracted international attention for its gruesome details.
The 41-year-old widow collapsed and needed medical assistance as the Russian court handed down its verdict, marking the end of a long legal battle.
Her legal troubles began in 2020 when the dismembered remains of Ukrainian rapper Alexander Yushko were discovered.
The rapper, who performed under the stage name Andy Cartwright, allegedly died from an insulin injection before Kohar dismembered his body with knives and a hacksaw.
Court testimony revealed that the dismemberment began while the victim was still alive, and an expert assessment determined that the process began “minutes, tens of minutes” before death.
Prosecutors accused Kohar of committing a “perfect murder” despite four independent expert examinations failing to definitively prove she was the killer, The Sun reported.
The conviction came despite a lack of blood evidence in the couple’s St. Petersburg apartment, where investigators said all surfaces and utensils had been “cleaned with vinegar.”
The case took a disturbing turn when authorities accused Kohar of engaging in necrophilia and cannibalism, claiming she “drank her dead husband’s blood and had sex with his corpse.”
Body parts were reportedly stored in a refrigerator, put through a washing machine cycle, and some remains were allegedly fed to rats in the yard.
Kohar has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, insisting that Yushko died of a drug overdose.
She claimed her actions were motivated by a desire to protect his reputation from the “disgraceful” circumstances of his death and to keep his fans in the dark about his battle with drug addiction.
The Ukrainian-born rapper was reportedly having a secret romance with a fan at the time of his death, adding another layer of complexity to the family tragedy. Court records show the couple had been experiencing difficulties in their marriage before the fatal incident.
During her final court appearance, Kohar said all her actions were “to protect her from evil” but offered no further explanation before collapsing at sentencing.
