In other Rakim news, he recently responded to Will Smith’s admission that Will was “trying to sound like” the fully-paid idol on the hit song “Summertime,” asking for a collaboration.
Smith admitted as much while chatting with the legendary rapper backstage during CBS’ Grammy Salute 50 Years of Hip Hop special last year.
“I definitely wanted to sound like you on ‘Summertime,'” he told Rakim. “Because I screamed all night and I couldn’t hit that ‘carefree’ high note. And [the producer] Just like, ‘Yo, give me Rakeem’s shit.
After Smith reposted the video on Instagram on Tuesday (July 23) to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of his and DJ Jazzy Jeff’s album Homebase, Rakeem took to the comments section to make an exciting request.
He wrote: “Peace Will!! Keep rocking bro, it’s time for SUMMERTIME PT 2, come with me! Haha.
While Smith has yet to respond, many of his followers agreed with the idea, with one writing: “yesssss @willsmith and @djjazzyjeff please make this happen!!!”
