It’s been a busy few months for Quavo. The Atlanta-born artist has participated in a variety of high-profile collaborations, performed at award shows, and is even set to appear in an upcoming film. Now, he has other, less exciting things to do. According to TMZ Hip Hop, he is being sued by a Louisiana rapper named Lamount London or L.Mont.
L.Mont claims to have opened for Migos and 2 Chainz at the Sanger Theater in New Orleans back in 2016. At the time, he claimed he took the opportunity to give Quavo a CD containing the song “Bubble Gum” he had recorded a year earlier. L.Mont stated that he did so in the hope of having the opportunity to work with him in the future. Unfortunately, he never heard from him again.
L.Mont accuses Quavo of plagiarizing “Bubblegum”
However, a few years later, Quavo released his debut studio album, Quavo Huncho. L.Mont quickly noticed that one of the songs, “Bubble Gum,” sounded familiar. He claims the lyrics, arrangement and melody are all his work and is now seeking compensation. However, these are not the only legal issues currently plaguing Quavo. He also took the stand earlier this week to testify about the 2018 incident in Las Vegas.
The former Migo got into an argument with Antonio Henry, a waiter at the Encore Hotel & Casino at the time. Henry later accused Quavo of causing him physical and mental harm and is seeking monetary damages, according to 8 News Now. When asked how he thought he would be seen in court, Quavo said “to be a great role model, at least to the kids… to be myself and show them where I come from. I would never – ever. Gonna forget where I come from. But also be kind to others. What do you think about Louisiana rapper L.Mont suing Quavo for allegedly stealing his song? Do you hear the similarities?
