This is the fifth studio record from Bruiser Wolf, the deejay from Detroit, Michigan. As a member of the Bruiser Brigade, his 2021 solo debut Dope Game Stupid is shaping up to be an experimental gangster and comedy gem, despite the modest reception to his second feature My Story Got Stories a few years ago. His last two albums, Potluck and Made by Dope, produced by Harry Fraud respectively, became his most famous material to date, and look forward to Push & Paint for 313 Day.
Payroll Giovanni appears on the intro and final single “Hater Not an Opp,” explaining that all they both care about is product getting in and out, before Akeem Ali joins Bruiser on the lead single to talk about having a “common goal” over the Mobb beat. That said, these aren’t necessarily my top 3 favorite trailers. “Ole Girl” featuring P-Lo finds two women asking if they can do this dance, while “Toxic” featuring Sada Baby sets a hyphy vibe, subtly talking about how all their bitches are toxic types.
The second half begins with this animated beat where he admits he’s not good with “numbers” so instead of calling him a hoe, he links to “Ask Yourself” featuring GT, making people question whether they can sleep with a real person. “Why are they playing with me?” The Babytron creator talks about people loving traffic in every city they visit, but when “She a Bill,” created by Sheefy McFly herself, describes a woman who resembles a receipt with a wallet, “Wannabees” concluded that Push & Paint mocked the hip-hop wannabes of Warner Bros.’ Dogi Show characters.
Last fall, the Bruiser Wolf earned a huge co-sign from two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant, and while it didn’t blow me away like Made by Dope or Potluck, it was a pretty solid way to celebrate 313 days. Sheefy McFly’s production is mostly reminiscent of the Mobb and hyphy West Coast hip-hop scene, which is cool because I’ve heard some comparisons between him and the E-40, except there are a few features I could do without, and it’s definitely a step up on the back end.
