The rap battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has dominated the hip-hop conversation for months, and now it’s reportedly going to be made into a documentary.
According to Deadline, the epic clash will be aired on Channel 4 in a new show called Public Enemies: Kendrick vs. Drake. Using archival footage and interviews with friends and collaborators, the documentary will delve into the rapper’s origins and explore how their backgrounds shaped them. The documentary, produced by Acme Films and GroupM Motion Entertainment, will also focus on their explosive fight and its aftermath.
Shaminder Nahal, Channel 4’s head of specialist live action, said in a statement: “Public Enemy: Kendrick vs Drake is more than just a biography, it’s a biography. It’s a modern take on A cultural exploration of two of music’s most influential voices, this documentary will delve into the unique journeys of Kendrick and Drake, exploring how their backgrounds, talents, and visions made them global icons.
Acme Films also produced the 2017 documentary Public Enemy: Jay-Z v. Kanye. Creative director Jaimie D’Cruz said in a press release that Kendrick Lamar’s match with Drake reflects a new era in which the landscape has changed , competition is also more prevalent.
“It’s only been a few years since our previous film Public Enemies for Channel 4 explored the rivalry between Jay Z and Kanye,” said D’Cruz. “But ‘Public Enemy: Kendrick vs. Drake’ feels like a story set in a time when all the rules have changed and the beef is all around us.”
Drake on Fake Friends and Backbiters
Meanwhile, Drake seemed to reflect on his feud with Kendrick Lamar during a recent appearance in Toronto.
“At some point in your life, people you thought were friends, or people you thought were close to you, they might change their tune, they might try to mess with you, they might stab you in the back, they might will do a lot of things to you,” he shared.
“You’ll realize it,” Drake added. “No matter where you are in life, you’ve probably been there and you’ll be there again. That’s just the way life is. But you see, sometimes it’s just you, just you. Sometimes, you’re the only one thinking .
