Lizzo’s recent post about quitting the music industry due to the ongoing negativity surrounding her name prompted a vicious response from an attorney representing one of the superstar’s former backup dancers in a sexual harassment lawsuit.
In a statement obtained by Billboard on Monday (April 1), Los Angeles attorney Ron Zambrano wrote: “Lizzo’s statement that she was bullied by the Internet was a joke when she was You should take an honest look at yourself.”
He continued: “Her latest post is just another attention-seeking outburst and attempt to deflect from her own failings as she continues to blame others for her predicament. Lizzo’s legal and public relations strategy is a failure, So she’s trying desperately to play the victim.
“She has had these childish tantrums before. No one really believed she would give up music. But she should stop sexually harassing, humiliating, and bullying her employees and finally take responsibility for her actions.”
In making his point, he also addressed the recent allegations against Diddy and former Nickelodeon executive Dan Schneider.
“She can make all of this go away if she seizes the opportunity to set an example, admit her mistakes, pay for those she wronged, and work hard to be a better person,” he said.
“Celebrity toxicity is poisoning the entertainment industry, with Diddy and Dan Schneider being the latest examples, and Lizzo’s behavior will not be tolerated. There is no safer place in society than for this kind of behavior, as the entire industry will be criticized for allowing Workplaces are being punished for this despicable treatment of employees.”
In late March, the 35-year-old shared a candid message on Instagram about the personal struggles she’d been facing. According to the note, these challenges led her to make the difficult decision to quit the music industry.
“I’m tired of putting up with the drag of everyone in my life and online,” she wrote. “I just wanted to make music, make people happy, and help the world become a little better than I found it. But I started to feel like the world didn’t want me to be a part of it.
“I constantly encounter lies about my influence and opinions…I am the butt of jokes at every turn because of my appearance…My character is picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespect my name.”
At the end, she declared: “I didn’t sign up for this shit – I quit.”
