After purchasing the naming rights, Pitbull will now have a football stadium named in his honor.
The Florida International University Board of Trustees on Tuesday (Aug. 6) approved an agreement to convert Florida International University Stadium into Pitbull Stadium for the next five years, with the option to renew for an additional five years after that.
The deal will cost Mr. 305 $1.2 million annually and also includes some social media obligations. He also must attend an annual track fundraiser and compose a national anthem for the team.
But in addition to naming rights, he’ll get some cool perks, including 10 days of use of the stadium per year and reserving two suites for all home football games. His spirits brand Voli 305 Vodka will also become the brand of choice for on-site distribution.
According to ESPN, Pitbull said in a statement: “What we are doing here is groundbreaking. We are making history. This is history being made. You will find that every other university will want to do the same thing. But the difference is, we’re not doing it for publicity, we’re doing it from the bottom of our hearts. We’re doing it because I’m 305 years old and I’m from the bottom. My backyard.
Florida International University Athletic Director Scott Carr added: “This is a historic day for Florida International University athletics to be able to compete in a unique event with a world-renowned artist and standout who truly values relationships and community. Cooperation. [Pitbull]His financial support is changing plans, but his provision of a microphone to amplify the FIU’s impact will be more beneficial to the growth of our brand.
The Panthers will play their first official game on September 7 against Central Michigan University at Pitbull Stadium.
On the music front, Pitbull claimed last fall that he defeated the former Ruff Ryders rapper in a fight a few years ago, ultimately receiving vitriol from Drag-On.
“@pitbull I’ve watched you lie for over 15 years about how you fought me and won [laughing emoji],” he wrote in a long letter. “First of all, I was filming a video on DMX (Don’t Love Me) and they were begging me to come out and listen to you and spit on you.
“I didn’t even want to come out, nor should I, but I did and it wasn’t a fight at all and you know that.. Don’t let this nigga %@irvgotti187 get you high and make you smoke. I don’t know you Why do you keep saying that you make progress through me? Because you are very successful.
He continued: “Now you’ve even added more lies to the story [laughing emoji]. I fight real niggas with REAL BARS, so now you have my undivided attention! – so please check this out – if you ever mention my name in a disrespectful way again, you will be my next part 47 – which I will dedicate to you and @irvgotti187 with no problem.
“I don’t bother anyone but you keep messing with me – why? I know I’m a bar trophy to some of you rappers – before you respond, check out my other jams, check it out See if you guys want this smoke, for my mom I’ll smoke your bulldog – I like to mix my weed anyway.
The spat stems from a recent episode of Gold Minds hosted by Kevin Hart, in which Mr. Universe revisited a story about him cleaning up with Drag-On during a freestyle match in the late ’90s Floor rumors.
Neither Pitbull nor Irv Gotti responded to Drag-On’s Instagram post.
