The current and past members of Pharcyde – Slimkid3, Fatlip, Imani and B ##### Brown – have 1.5 million reasons to celebrate.
On April 23, two singles from the Los Angeles Breeding Group, “Passin’Me” and “Runnin”, received new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The former has been certified Platinum (which means it sold over a million copies), while the latter is considered gold (which means it sold over 500,000).
Slimkid3 entered Instagram, reflecting on the monumental milestone and recalling Tupac Shakur told him that the bandโs debut album, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, should have sold millions of units when it was released in 1992.
“Wow! This is the best news I’ve heard throughout the week,” he wrote in the title. โNow go to RIAA and confirm and then get two plaques hanging on the wall of the crib! He always has our best interest!
“RIP HOMIE! Thank you for letting us know, we put on the ninja! Let go! All we need now is #BizArrideiiThepharcyDe go to #platinum & #labcabincalifornia go to #gold, we were there like swimsuits.”

Founded in 1989, Pharcyde has had a profound impact on hip hop by reshaping the sound and image of West Coast rap in the early 1990s. While the Los Angeles scene was dominated by gangster raps from artists like the NWA and 2Pac, Pharcyde, along with Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, introduced an alternative to jazz-injection.
Their witty lyrics, unconventional flow and soul-filled rhythms contrast with the general trend, on the West Coast, opens the door to a new wave of independence, substitution and โbackpack rapโ that has influenced countless influences. The collaboration with groundbreaking producers like J Dilla, on his second album, Labcabincalifornia, further cemented their reputation in pushing creative boundaries.
The lineup looks slightly different now, with B ##### Brown being the only unreunited member under the Pharcyde umbrella. On May 2 (May 2), Slimkid3, Imani and Fatlip made up the 1999 Eternal EP, which wrote “The Future”, which has four new tracks. Later, they started a tour with Cypress Hill, atmosphere and Lupe’s crushing defeat in St. Augustine, Florida. Find more information here.
