A legend in the hip-hop world, Nas recently sat down with Joe Budden to discuss his latest album, Light-Years, with DJ Premier. In the exclusive interview, Nas talks about his thought process for some of these records, and reveals a detail about Budden’s musings that may shock some.
Apparently, Nas approached Eminem for a feature on his song “Daughter,” but was respectfully declined by Eminem. Nas revealed the details of the conversation after clarifying the situation.
“Every record I make is not a battle,” Nas said. “I remember I sent the song ‘Daughter’ to Eminem, and at the time, you know, he spent a lot of time talking about his daughter, and he said, ‘Thank you, but I told my daughter that I’m not going to write songs directly about my daughter anymore because it’s a sensitive issue with all the music I put out.'”
“But he said, ‘Thank you,’ because most people want to write songs where they compete with me. It’s so refreshing to get a record that You Didn’t Come For Me,” he concluded, summing up Eminem’s thoughtful rejection. Now, while this means we don’t get to hear the two legends talk about their daughter together, it continues to show how important a real relationship is to two of the most famous figures in culture.
