Ms. Ye was sued by fashion brand Yeezy and another former employee of Donda Academy for racial discrimination.
Ye faces racial discrimination accusations
Ye is facing a lawsuit from his fashion brand Yeezy and another former employee of his failing school in California, Donda Academy, according to documents obtained by XXL. In a 31-page lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (April 26), Benjamin Deshon Provo accused Ye of engaging in unfair labor practices and racial discrimination.
Provo, who is black, claims he suffered discrimination, harassment and retaliation from Ye while working as a security guard at Tangda College. While working at the school, Provo claimed that members of his administrative team treated him and other black employees less favorably than their white colleagues. “Specifically, [Ye] Frequently screaming and berating at black employees, in contrast, he never raised his tone toward white employees,” the lawsuit states.
Provo believes he was specifically targeted because of his Muslim faith and his refusal to convert to Christianity under direct orders from Ye, a devout Christian, and his management team. Provo also claimed that, at Ye’s direction, he was given an ultimatum: cut his hair or be fired.
Provo was also asked to perform security work over the weekend for Ye’s Sunday Service and the warehouse where Kanye stores Yeezy apparel. While providing security for Ye, Provo claims he was asked to use violent and dangerous tactics against paparazzi. In addition, Provo claims Ye also unreasonably reduced his salary and paid him less than his non-Black peers.
Provo is seeking a jury trial and $35,000 in damages.

A former employee claims Ye wanted to build cages for students
Provo’s lawsuit follows a complaint filed against Ye by another former staff member at Tangda College, alleging unfair treatment of students at the school.
Trevor Phillips worked for the Yeezy brand and Donda Academy before it was shut down. In the 42-page lawsuit filed April 2, Phillips alleges that the Grammy Award-winning rapper and producer yelled “dangerous comments” in front of students at Donda Academy and allegedly told numerous students that he wished They “had their heads shaved, and he was going to build a prison in the school,” telling them “they could be locked in a cage.”
In addition, Phillips, who is also black, said Ye gave preferential treatment to white employees. He claimed that Ye “treated black employees much worse than white employees” and that he “screamed and berated black employees while never raising his tone toward white employees.”
Phillips went on to claim that Ye frequently expressed anti-Semitic values in front of students and allegedly said in front of parents that he “only likes to date white women,” while telling employees that if anyone got fat, they would be fired.
Phillips is also seeking a jury trial and monetary damages of at least $35,000.
