The hip-hop duo gave the world arguably one of the best beats in improv with “Shook Ones Pt.” 2′, Mobb Deep, are back again with an album project. Titled “Infinite,” the record celebrates Havoc and Prodigy’s infinite contributions and has 15 tracks and a duration of 51 minutes.
The project begins with “Against The World,” when typical eighth-note hi-hats are scattered throughout a sample filled with looping sounds.
Meditative rhythms lead to some of the sharpest rap at the beginning of the album, concluding with “We The Real Thing.” The equally beautiful final track contrasts considerably with the beginning of the album and has a darker tone and pattern, despite following a similar production approach.
One can also expect to hear legends like Nas, Raekwon, Clipse, and newcomers like Jorja Smith, who come together to ensure that the project feels both anachronistic and old-new at the same time.
Ultimately, the album serves as a reminder of Prodigy’s contributions to hip-hop and serves as a sonic monument to the late musician’s deep reverence and memory. As their ninth album, Infinite is a must-listen for all hip-hop fans (and students). Check it out below!
