The Mo3 murder trial has been postponed until further notice.
Yella Beezy was scheduled to stand trial on February 2 for allegedly paying Kewon White to murder Mo3 in 2020. The case had a preliminary hearing in Dallas County Court on Friday (January 16), and the defense requested a delay due to the large amount of evidence presented by the state.
Beezy did not attend the hearing due to the recent death of his mother. Judge Chika Anyam decided to hold another hearing next week to discuss how much more time is needed.
“Due to logistical issues and the motion filed today, the parties will return next week to discuss a new trial date,” the judge’s ruling said.
On January 7, Yella Beezy’s attorneys filed a motion to continue the trial, claiming the state presented more than 16 terabytes of evidence but they needed more time to complete.
“The majority of the discovery was not related to Conway,” the document reads. “This discovery was not material to the outcome of the case. Nor did it reveal any new or relevant facts about the case. There were audit documents, jail calls and numerous other documents that were not relevant to the case. There were some video files and many minutes passed with nothing happening. There were numerous video files and other data that showed or described the same incident over and over again. Some of the files were labeled not showing their contents and were labeled with numbers that had no meaning to the defense.”
Yella Beezy has been out on bail shortly after being arrested for the murder of Mo3 in March last year. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
