Missy Elliott quietly ended the years-long legal battle on the days before the trial of the case, ending the chapter just days before the jury trial.
Hip-hop idols settled with producer Terry Williams, who claimed he co-wrote multiple tracks on Sista’s 1994 album 4, but DA World revolves around all the Sistas around DA World, but never credits or rewards.
The lawsuit, filed in 2018, highlights Elliott’s early work with the R&B girl group before breaking through personal careers.
Williams, a former Philadelphia studio owner, claims he and Elliott have collaborated on four songs on the project and are seeking royalties for nearly three decades.
He accused Elliott of removing him from credit and financial compensation. Elliott has been denying the allegations.
Williams “had not written words or wrote any songs in any way,” she said in court documents.
The dispute was settled without trial, Elliott’s legal team stressed that the outcome was beneficial to their clients.
“The last residue was dismissed in connection with any request from Terry Williams,” her attorney told Billboard.
