Mike WiLL Made-It is one of the most iconic producers of the 2010s. With his powerful voice and his iconic label, he helped cultivate the sound of an entire generation of artists. Mike WiLL’s popularity has declined in recent years as he has begun to focus on artists signed to his label. On May 16, however, he had something to say. The Atlanta producer took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain about the current state of hit-making. According to him, artists became lazy.
The criticism is divided into two parts. The first artist to see Mike WiLL Made-It was simply covering iconic songs. “Tired of hearing replays,” he tweeted. “Nothing like the original shxt.” The second message pointed out the trend of older artists agreeing to cover their own songs. “Please don’t appear in remakes of your classics,” he added. “That’s a little pet peeve of mine.”

Mike WiLL Made-It wants artists to make original music
The producers didn’t mention any names, but there have been many recent examples. Usher danced to Summer Walker’s “Come Thru,” which sampled his 1997 single “You Make Me Wanna…”. Then there’s Fergie, who performed with Jack Harlow at the VMAs when he sampled “Glamorous” on the radio hit “First Class.”
Mike WiLL Made-It is tired of this trend. He doesn’t blame the record company either, but the artist. In his view, record companies didn’t care about music as long as they were moving units. “They just put shxt on the shelf,” he wrote in another tweet. “It depends on the production company or the independent artist…” McIlwell isn’t the only producer to express frustration.
Sonny Digital, another stalwart of the 2010s, backs this up. He quoted McIlwell’s tweet and added: “I swear I have no respect for anyone who covers an already popular song and then acts like they took a hit from an already popular song. song. Hopefully more established artists will stop listening to these producers and try more original music.
