Federal prosecutors say Mello Buckzz’s father is still selling guns even after a massive shooting outside his daughter’s album release party.
Melvin Doyle, 45, is accused of possessing a firearm after selling 13 shots to undercover informants between May 20 and July 7, according to federal complaints.
One of these deals came days after the July 2 shooting outside Artis Lounge, near Chicago Hebei, where Mello Buckzz held a private event.
Authorities say Doyle was convicted of felony conviction for attempted murder and drug trafficking beforehand and he was legally prohibited from owning or selling any firearms.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Guns and Explosives (ATF) launched an investigation in May after receiving a prompt that Doyle is trading guns.
The agent uses confidential informants to arrange and document Doyle’s multiple purchases, including his home in the 5800 block of South Martin Luther King Drive.
Investigators did not associate Doyle’s weapons with the shooting, nor did no suspects be arrested in the case.
Doyle’s criminal history includes a 1998 conviction for attempted murder, a 2003 conviction for the manufacture and delivery of controlled substances, and a 2006 conviction for heroin distribution.
These beliefs make it illegal for him to own or sell a gun. Prosecutors said the gun sales were captured on audio and video.
Police are still looking for multiple gunmen who opened fire before Mello Buckzz’s mixtape release party.
They fired from a dark vehicle around 1:30 a.m. on July 2 and aimed at the crowd outside the club. The shooter fled the scene, and the detectives believed the attack might be revenge.
A $10,000 reward is offered to provide information resulting in the arrest.
