New York City Mayor Eric Adams revoked Diddy’s keys to New York City over the recently released 2016 video of Puffy brutally attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie.
TMZ received two letters on Saturday (June 15), one of which was sent to Combs Entertainment LLC’s offices in New York and the other to his office in Los Angeles. They were relayed to Dee Dee by Mayor Adams, who said he was “deeply disturbed” by Cassie’s video.
In his letter, Adams said he stood with survivors of domestic violence and outlined that the key was intended to honor outstanding citizens. The mayor noted that Bad Boy Tycoon no longer met the criteria.
The mayor of New York also provided an address where Diddy could return the keys. The move marks the first time the keys to New York have been revoked.
Diddy reportedly received the letter on June 4 and returned the honor on June 10.
Rumors about the key’s withdrawal began back in May, when the New York City mayor was interviewed by PIX11 and asked about the shocking footage of Puffy attacking Cassie.
Asked whether Diddy’s keys to New York City, which Adams presented to him at a ceremony in Times Square last September, could be revoked, the mayor said he and his team were considering doing so.
“I think all of us are deeply disturbed by watching the chilling video of this young lady being attacked by him,” he said. “The committee and the team, we’ve never revoked a key before, but we’re sitting down now and looking at what to do next.”
When asked again in a more direct manner whether he would consider being stripped of the honor, Adams responded: “We’re analyzing everything and the team will come back.” [to] I made my final decision.
Surely someone would comment on Didi losing the key to the city? 50 Cent recently took the spoofing of Diddy to the next level by participating in a comedic rant about the embattled mogul in Miami.
The show, which took place at the Dead Flamingo Pop Up in Little Havana, featured 50 fans at the charity event who posed for photos with fans and passed around photos of his Branson cognac, according to the Miami Herald.
After the show, 50 posted his surprise appearance on Instagram, writing: “Yeah I was there and thought puffy might show up because I saw Tom Brady at his show. [shrug emoji] He didn’t come, I have a shooter [camera emoji] Get your mind out of the gutter photographer [eyes emoji] What!
Diddy is a fundraiser for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and while 50 himself didn’t take the stage, it featured local Miami comedians Lonnie Cox, Ricky Cruz and Drew I La’s set.
