Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator exist in different spaces. Both rappers have quirky and unique sounds, but that’s where the similarities end. Maxo makes relentless sausages. Taylor creates experimental and musically rich mixtures of genres. Despite these differences, the two rappers teamed up to create an electronic song. “Cracc Era” successfully plays to the strengths of Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator. Maxo’s voice is as gritty as ever, while Tyler manages to get back into his Odd Future bag, playing on the darker side of his musical tastes.
The instruments are crazy. This sounds like something Neptunes would have prepared for Clipse or Slim Thug in the mid-2000s. The Slim Thug analogy is particularly relevant here, as the pairing of Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator feels like the modern counterpart to Thug and Pharrell. We digress. It’s nice to hear Maxo spitting over sparse, creepy instrumentation. Tyler, the Creator is the real scene-stealer, though. It’s been a while since fans heard such a threatening voice from the OF founder, and we’re here to make sure he hasn’t lost a step. Maxo and Tyler are one of the strangest and more satisfying pairings of 2024 so far. Hope there can be more cooperation in the future.
