Master P rallied the New Orleans community for a charity basketball game at the University of New Orleans on Saturday to raise funds for a new giant screen to replace equipment lost during Hurricane Katrina.
The hip-hop mogul, who has served as UNO’s president of basketball operations since February 2025, teamed up with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal to organize the exhibition game.
The game featured the UNO basketball team against Sacramento State, in which Shaq’s son was also on the roster.
Master P has transitioned his role from music industry mogul to college basketball executive.
The New Orleans native played ball at the University of Houston and Merritt College in Oakland, Calif., where he earned a business degree before starting his own entertainment empire.
“This will be our first game. Our first test. We’re going to get better and better from here. When we put the New Orleans logo on our jerseys. We represent the city of New Orleans. We can compete with anybody, but we still need more help. I encourage businesses to get out there. Stand up and get out there with us,” Master P told WDSU.
The charity scrimmage represents Master P’s broader vision to revitalize the UNO basketball program.
Since taking on the role of President of Basketball Operations, he has focused on recruiting talent and forging partnerships with the biggest names in sports and entertainment.
The university’s Jumbotron was one of the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, leaving athletic programs without this vital equipment for nearly two decades.
Master P’s fundraising campaign aims to modernize the facility and enhance the matchday experience for fans and players.
UNO’s official regular season will begin in November, marking the No Limit mogul’s first full season in an executive role.
