Marlon Wayans turns some of the most personal and emotional parts of his life into a laugh centered on his oldest child Kai.
The actor and comedian are all on stage, using humor to talk about Kay’s gender transition and his journey from chaos to full support.
Wayans explained the special offer in his own words during an interview with Men’s Health.
“It’s about my transition – transitioning with them – as a father, and how I went from rejection to acceptance,” Waynes said.
Kai, formerly known as Amai, began the transition a few years ago and is now in his 20s. According to Wayans, Kai is still the same brain they have always had. They only have beards now.
Waynes said the viewpoints were changing rapidly. It took him about a week to stop tripping and start learning how to love the right way, he said.
Since then, he has used his platform to publicly support Kai, responding to trolls, and encouraging people to respect pronouns and identities.
He has been open to how hard it was to deal with everything at the beginning.
“It’s beautiful, but the journey is painful. When you’re from that place, you’re not only kidding. You’re healing people – a fun way.”
Wayans has been keeping it easy, and used to joke that Kai now adds some kindness to the often-touched topic, like his brother Shawn Wayans.
When Soulja Boy tries to come to Kai with some trans nonsense online, Marlon Wayans doesn’t back down and argues with the rapper to show that he’s not here to disrespect his kids.
Outside of the world standing, Wayans plays a darker role in the upcoming horror thriller He, which is scheduled to be released on September 19, 2025.
