Mariah Carey quickly silenced critics after the social media reaction to Muni Long’s “We Belong” at the 2025 Iheartradio Music Awards.
The iconic singer won the prestigious Idol Award at the ceremony, caught on camera, and seemed to be a skeptical side-eye as Long performed her classic hit.
Social media quickly locked in the present, describing Kairi’s expression as “dark” and “unimpressive”.

But Kairi quickly figured out the record. On Wednesday (March 19), the superstar singer filmed her Instagram story with Long and Comeller Tori Kelly.
Carey praised the two artists and wrote: “Thank you so much for these two gorgeous, super grand, kind, incredible musicians whose tribute performance at the @ihearttradio Awards has made my heart so joyful. I love you so much, thank you very much!!!”
Muni Long also talked about the virus moment, posting a detailed video explaining the reality behind the scenes of Mariah Carey’s tribute.
According to Long, Carey personally chose her performance, a fact she emphasized thankfully.
Long openly admitted: “No one can sing Maria’s songs like Maria.”
She further revealed that Carey showed her performance privately. But even though she had Carey’s video proof, she chose not to share it publicly.
Long humorously added that she would still express gratitude even if Carey “pushed her down the stairs or said she hated it.”
Despite initial online speculation, Carey seems to have a great appreciation for both tribute performances.
