Malcolm-Jamal Warner was remembered by his mother in a heartfelt tax Friday (August 7) following his death last month in a drowning accident off the coast of Costa Rica.
Pamela Warner made his first public speech since his son’s death, sharing a profound personal message on social media, writing: “It goes without saying that our hearts are heavy with the loss of Malcolm.”
The Emmy-nominated actor, known for his role on the Cosby Show, passed away last month while swimming on a famous beach in Costa Rica. He is 53 years old. His mother confirmed that he “had no suffering.”
She wrote: “For those who suffer from sudden and painful departing from the start, he feels miserable at his presence or just hearing his voice once and seeing his pleasant smile again, allowing him to comfort himself in peace and more importantly, he has not suffered.”
Pamela describes her son as a deep and sympathetic person, saying: “He is a kind, caring person with a huge heart for humanity. He wants everyone to be aware of their inner strength, they can succeed, achieve and transform. This is his latest task and work, transform so that you can fully appear in your life.”
She also reflects on his dedication to family and art. “Malcolm is an outstanding husband, father and son – a man who deeply falls in love with life, his wife and daughter. He is not only my son, but my son, but my teacher, coach, confidant, business partner and best friend. He is his father’s son, who is very proud of being his father and has been greatly loved unconditionally.”

Warner’s creative journey goes beyond performance. Pamela noted that he started playing bass at the age of 26 and later formed his own band Miles Long. He released four albums, received two Grammy nominations, and won a Grammy Award.
“He fell in love with the magic of actors and always learned and honed his craft,” she said. “At the age of eight, after his first stage of performance, he announced that being on stage was something he wanted to do in his life. It became a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
Pamela has poetic reflection on his life and passed away: “Malcolm was born through water, he transitioned through water. He left from the time when the water arrived. It was his time. His mission was completed.”
She added: “Get close to any part of Malcolm’s life that touches your life. To keep it close, you can keep his spirit alive – nourishing you with the peace, love, joy and light embodied by the embodied Malcolm-Jamal Warner.”
