Ludacris just dropped some knowledge to make you rethink your post-workout routine. The Atlanta legend adds hot sauce to his protein shake.
Yes, you read that right.
The “Fast and Furious” star shared this health secret in a recent interview with Men’s Health. When asked about his go-to dish at Frank’s RedHot, Luda didn’t mention wings or eggs.
He said protein shake.
“I put it in my protein shakes…it helps boost my metabolism,” Ludacris told the magazine.
Most people would think this sounds disgusting. But Luda might be on to something big. Science backs up his spicy milkshake game.
Capsaicin is the chemical that causes chili peppers to burn your mouth. Studies show it can increase your metabolic rate by up to eight percent. This means you burn more calories just sitting.
WebMD confirms that capsaicin “can slightly increase metabolism, which is how quickly you use energy and burn fat.” Studies also found that it reduces appetite, making you eat less.
The compound works by activating TRPV1 receptors in the body. These neural channels detect heat sources and trigger thermogenesis. This is when your body burns extra energy to cool itself down.
One study followed people who took 6 mg of capsaicinoids daily for 12 weeks. They have no major side effects, and fat burning is improved.
Luda has been rapping about hot sauce since 2006. He mentions hot sauce on “Girls Gone Wild” from his Release Therapy album: “I’m like hot sauce with an extra kick/So put it on your tongue and let your mouth taste it.”
The 48-year-old rapper maintains an incredible figure thanks to his roles in action movies. He works out five or six days a week and follows a strict diet plan. Adding hot sauce to his protein shakes aligns with his commitment to staying healthy.
Ludacris headlines Frank’s RedHot’s “Eat the GOAT” Super Bowl event, starring Ludacris and his Disturbing Tha Peace team members Chingy, Shawnna and I-20.
The campaign celebrates the brand’s 25th anniversary. When Frank was offered additional roles in commercials, Luda brought his friends into the project.
The rapper has been filming commercials for 20 years. During his career, he appeared in 32 different commercials. His natural charisma translates perfectly into the marketing campaign.
Ludacris confirms details of The Fast and the Furious: Part 2 remain top secret. He told fans to follow his Instagram for behind-the-scenes content on the film’s sets.
