Lil Nas X said his rise to the stars and the chaos that followed made him rebuild his spirituality and reassess his priorities.
The 26-year-old hip-hop artist told Paper Magazine that fame did not lift him off of his deeper meaning, which brought him closer.
“It’s usually the opposite of others, but it brings me closer to everything around me and the synchronization of life,” he said.
Lil Nas X, known for his breakthrough hit in 2019, admits he once regarded spiritual thoughts as nonsense.
He said: “As a very skeptical young man, I have all these things throughout my life, and it’s my ‘magic hoo ha’ for life, but then I thought, OK, that makes sense. I get it.”
As his career progresses, so does his mentality. The “Industry Baby” rapper said he shifted his attention inward after years of trying to fix everything around him.
“Other than that, after finding that spiritual side, I did 180 from a thinking perspective, and I needed to heal the world all the time and then come back to myself,” he said.
This self-awareness helps him realize when he needs to take a step back.
“You have to keep that balance, well, I need to focus on me right now.” “I need to do my s**t. I obviously don’t feel comfortable, even if I don’t want to admit it. And, the only way I can work with myself first. Now, I’m tipping my feet back to the world again.”
