Liam Payne’s death ruled ‘not a suicide’

Argentine authorities have officially ruled that the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne was not a suicide. Three people were arrested on October 16 after the singer fell from a hotel balcony. TMZ reports that Payne will return to the UK this week to be buried. Because of his impaired judgment, authorities claimed that Payne’s fall was not a suicide.

Initial accusations held that Payne jumped from the balcony of Casa Sur Palermo, sparking suspicions of suicide. Three people were detained in connection with the case, including a hotel housekeeper, a friend of Payne’s and an alleged drug dealer. Police carried out a series of raids targeting those suspected of supplying or possessing drugs in connection with Payne’s death. One Direction will release an official statement regarding the band member’s death on October 18.

The 31-year-old singer stayed at the hotel for two weeks, including his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, who was watching Payne’s former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan perform at the event Return to Florida after a concert at the Movistar Arena in Enos Aires. An autopsy revealed that Payne had a variety of substances in his system, including “pink cocaine” and “crystal.” Investigators reportedly found drug paraphernalia in his hotel room, as well as a Dove soap dish that contained trace amounts of the substance, raising questions about how Payne obtained the drugs.

In 2023, Payne admitted to his past struggles with drugs on his YouTube channel. Months ago, he assured those closest to him that he remained sober and appeared to be in good spirits. The cause of Payne’s relapse is unclear. Police said the person who supplied him with the drugs may bear significant responsibility.
