Kendrick Lamar wowed fans by posting a new musical number on Instagram that fans and media have dubbed “Watch the Party Die” due to its catchy chorus Shocked.
In the song, Lamar expresses his dissatisfaction with the current state of the music industry and other industries.
After some internal debate, Lecrae decided to respond to his Compton brothers with some bars of his own. Visually, he replaces Kendrick’s black air force with a white air force, which usually signifies evil behavior.
In Lecrae’s freestyle, which uses the same beat, he says: “I’m wrestling, like, should I write a poem? / The culture here has enough clout-chasing vultures trying to prove their worth / They want attention, they can’t imagine me not trying to make myself look bigger in Kendrick’s mention / I can’t imagine where he stands.
Lecrae continues, “Before I went on a mission, I was a victim of the party/I bought the party’s favor, I used trauma, my single mom to justify commas, to pay the devil’s wages.”
His powerful lyrics have earned him a strong, positive response from fans. Lecrae is a well-known Christian hip-hop artist who has chosen to reflect on his past and reveal how he has dealt with challenges in the industry.
“Watch the Party Die” also introduced Kendrick Lamar to new fans thanks to the song’s non-secular themes. Despite working in niche genres, Lecrae has collaborated with mainstream artists such as Ty Dolla $ign and Big KRIT.
